Michael shook his head, and looked at the paper in his hands. One of his coworkers was handing this out, and asked him to write down who he was before he joined. Also to write why he had decided to join.
It's actually very difficult to describe everything that happened. After all, he is the only one who remembers that there was his family business, and he has given up trying to explain it to others.
So, instead, he'd rather talk about his family, and touch on the family business a bit.
Either way, he had an hour to spare right now.
Sitting down at his desk, he picked up a pen and began to write. His family... Was the most ordinary one that owned a business in Old L Corp. Loving parents who worried about their children, that's how he could describe them. And their source of income, was their little clinic that treated the lungs of Backstreet residents.
He, as the youngest child, grew up in those conditions. Inhaling smoke, he had a lot of health problems. Being the child of doctors, however, had many good points.
But that didn't apply to his older sister Elizabeth and older brother Jack. They had both grown up to be healthy people, as they hadn't grown up in the old L corp. Even though they were older than him, and had long since left the family, they always treated him with love.
They both became fixers. Elizabeth joined East Zwei, where she slowly made her way up. However, he knows that she is now already on the first section, and has become a fixer of the first hail.
Jack, on the other hand, has become part of North Seven. He, like Elizabeth, has slowly moved up the career ladder, becoming part of the second section. If he remembers correctly from their last correspondence, he has already become part of the first section.
Michael misses their correspondence very much.
But now it's necessary to go back a little bit. To the Smoke War.
When this war started, his sister and brother participated in it. Elizabeth was already in Zwei at the time, but Jack was a simple member of some office.
It was a terrible time, according to his brother. He saw too many horrors that Michael later had to help solve. Counseling, support, advice and pills.
He had to learn a lot to help his brother. And that war still leaves its scars on his personality.
However, he hopes that the help at the M corp treatment centers helped.
After the war was over, a new L corp rose up. The old L corp, completely destroyed everything they had so others wouldn't get their singularity. Including humans.
That's something he'll never forget, even after he heard the news.
But at least then there was no more of that nasty smoke.
The next few years were very good for his family. A new influx of customers, cheap power and rent, on wing stocks, and even support from M corp. Well or patronage that we have to pay them a n% percentage of income.
To be honest, after signing the contract with M corp, he became the director of the small clinic. It was a big responsibility but also a nice note. It's nice to know that you are taken seriously.
After that, he was already doing everything himself. Buying medications, training staff and doing a lot of things since there wasn't a lot of money. While he was trying his best at one clinic, his parents set up a chain of clinics around the district.
This gave him a lot of experience, though of course at some point he had to ask his parents for help.
After that, he was able to get back on his feet on his own. Hire the right people, delegate tasks, that sort of thing. He's glad he did, since most of the paperwork fell to his secretary and assistants.
Slowly, his clinic has been expanding. Buying neighboring buildings, hiring builders to join those buildings to his main building, more help for low-income people and the like.
Of course, this also had a downside. Since it was a new Wing, new syndicates popped up here and there. It didn't get around his clinic, but his kindness helped him, though.
Although, in hindsight, it may have been foolish to help one middle finger member. But, his clinic had become a place for them to heal their wounds. In exchange for safety, of course.
The years that followed, until now, had been good. Lots of clients, a good reputation and a big income. Isn't that wonderful?
However, it all disappeared rather quickly, after the White Nights and Dark Days, his clinic was consumed by the distortion. And along with that, his parents, who he had invited, were also killed.
Everyone who was there... Died.
Glancing at the paper, he decided not to write the last lines. They don't need to know about this.
After the L corp collapsed, he left it for the 23rd district. He just happened to take the first ticket, and left on that warp train.
That's how he ended up in district 23. After that, he joined the Office, fascinated by the dream.
Perhaps it's foolish for him to trust these strangers with his back, but... He hopes it will be worth it.
When he's strong enough, he'll go back to his clinic. And kill that rotten old man who took everything from him.
